I Would Do Anything for Love

The other day at work, I heard I Would Do Anything for Love on the radio, and I couldnt help but think two things when I heard it. The first being most obvious: man, this song is really catchy. I found myself humming the chorus for the rest of my shift.

The second thought being that what is it that he wont do for love. I realized that after hearing this song about a million times, I never figured out what that one thing he wont do for love is. I mean, that is the main crux of the song afterall. So, this afternoon, I set out on a mission. I found the song on YouTube and listened to it in its entirety. And I discovered some interesting things.

First off, the video is completely cheesy and weird. I mean, wow. It definitely makes more than a few stops in Awkwardville. Second, the song is so long! I never realized that it was that long. I mean, a good song is one thing, but seven and a half minutes worth of a song which people only remember the chorus to is just a little excessive.

But it was all worth in in the last minute of the song because I finally figured out what this guy would never do for love in a most surprising manner, because I also discovered that this song features a female vocalist. It turns out that the woman in this video that I had only thought to be eye candy actually has a good voice. And she sings about all the bad things that would eventually happen in their relationship. The two most important being that he would leave her and that he would start screwing around. And to both charges he negates with a vehemenent I wont do that. So, thus, the mystery is solved. But it is no wonder that so many people probably dont know the answer. The song is just way too long with too much repetition to make it through the whole thing. I always listen to the first two verses and choruses if I am in a generous mood before turning it off.

So, enjoy the video if you like and you can see the mystery unfold for yourself.

Kids Interviews

Well, its that season again. I have been spending perfectly good days off to work for 8 hours instead doing kids interviews. But as much as I want to complain about the long days and very, very, very early morning wake-up calls, once I get going, its not that bad. And the kids are just so cute and nervous!

Today I had a little girl who was so nervous that instead of introducing herself with her own name, she said My name is Rachael. Those kinds of moments are just precious, especially because she didnt even notice that she had done it.

But luckily for me, I only have one more to go and its in Kanayama, by far the closest location of the three that I have been scheduled to work. Today was the furthest, requiring me to catch a 7:37 train, which meant that I had to wake up at 6:30. I was surprisingly lucid at that time in the morning. Next Sunday will require a 7:30 wake up call, and only a fifteen minute train ride, so that is super news!

Commuting

I am not sure when it happened, but I have grown quite fond of commuting. I think that it coincided with my recent discovery of audiobooks. I look forward to getting on the train every day now because that means I get another chance to listen to my latest book. And suddenly my commutes seem to short. I am actually a little disappointed when I reach my stop! Before you know it, I will be riding the train just for the heck of it. Wouldnt that just be spectacular?

However, I just finished up a book recently and I am on the lookout for a new read…or listen rather. It has been a bit torturous to just listen to music. So, let me know if you know any good books.

Sweating the Small Stuff

Things that are just too annoying…

~Shoes with laces. I wore a pair of tennis shoes today for the first time in what has been way too long, and man, just so mendoukusai!

~Getting to the bike parking area of my apartment only to realize that I have left my bike at the station.

~When my favorite mug is dirty in the sink.

~My favorite movie web page has been shut down. What am I supposed to do now??

~Waking up five minutes before my alarm is set to go off.

~Getting out of the shower and realizing that my clean towel is hanging up at the other end of the cold apartment.

~Being too short to see the tupperware lids without having to haul myself up onto the counter.

~People who say BAM more often than Emeril.

~The women who take up an extra seat on the train with their one shopping bag from Takashimaya.

Early Morning

I woke up quite voluntarily this morning just before 8:30. Yep, you heard me right! But, before you get too excited or proud of me for that fact, I do have to admit the reason that I woke up so early this morning. It was not by some miracle, or adaptation into a morning person. I actually went to bed last night around nine last night. Yep, I slept for very close to 12 hours.

But in my favor, before you start getting all disapproving, I had woken up at 6:30 yesterday morning following only an hour and a half of sleep to commute over an hour to work for eight hours doing kids interviews. That in and of itself is tiring enough, but following barely any sleep, is utterly exhausting. Plus, I was all warm in my room last night just having drunk a cup of strawberry tea.

So, this morning, I feel very well-rested indeed. We will see what time I fall asleep tonight having gotten so much tonight!

House, MD

When I was home for winter vacation, a few days after Christmas, there was an all-day House marathon on USA. Well, I found myself getting addicted to the show. So, I did some research online and found a website that allows me to watch House online. So, since I have come home, I started with season one and am now well into season two. And the show is completely awesome!

It doesnt make me want to be a doctor, but it is very interesting to see them solve medical mysteries. It makes me want to learn more about medicine and diseases. But, I cant imagine being a neurologist. Every time they show a scene with a brain biopsy or brain surgery, I flinch. I know that its not real, but I still cant stomach seeing that skull being drilled into. Ugh!

I just feel very fortunate that there are people out there who put in the time and effort to become doctors so that I can stay healthy!

Strange Sights

Yesterday on my way to work I saw a cat grooming itself on the roof of a truck cab. The cat was very cute and it just struck me as funny to see a cat being such a cat. So, that was a plus for the day.

Then, after work yesterday, I saw a man at the entrance to the subway. He was an older man, and when I entered the stairwell for the subway, I caught him leaping up the stairs. I think he jumped over about three steps. I was just about to write it off as an oddity when I glimpsed out of the corner of my eye that he was turning around and going back down the stairs. Yep, he repositioned himself and leapt up the stairs again. It was really strange and a little dangerous in my opinion. When I saw him, the man barely made it up the first time and he was leaping at the top of a long flight of stairs. So, I have to wonder if someone else had to call an ambulance before the end of the night.
